How does XML SiteMaps work?

For this to work successfully, you must wait until we have removed the password protection at your store and you have gone live with your store.

Once you have created all your categories and products, go to admin > "Tools" > "XML SiteMaps" and do step 1.

Post the store on Google Webmaster Tools
Go to https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/ and create an account. If you already have an account, log in.
Then enter the URL of your store in your account. Once you have done that, you will come to a page where you can choose how the page should be confirmed, with a meta tag or HTML file. You select the meta tag.
Then go to admin> "Settings & Design"> "Search Engine Optimization" and paste the meta tag into "Verification / verification - Google". You need to enable "Expert mode" in admin before you can do this.
Then go back to Google Webmaster Tools and click on your store in the list of URLs. Then click Sitemap Configuration and then Sitemaps. Enter the name of your Sitemap, ie. sitemapindex.xml.
Done!

Set up the store at the Bing Webmaster Center
Go to http://www.bing.se/webmaster and create an account. If you already have an account, log in.
Click "Add a site" and fill in the URL of your store and the URL of your sitemap which is http://yourbutik.com/sitemapindex.xml (replace dinbutik.com with your URL to the store).
You will now come to a page where you must verify your store. Copy what is in the text field under "Meta tag authentication", go to admin> "Settings & Design"> "Search engine optimization" and paste the meta tag in "Verification / verification - Bing".
You need to enable "Expert mode" in admin before you can do this.
Done!

What happens next?
When you change a category or product, always go after the change is made to admin> "Tools"> "XML SiteMaps" and do step 1 and step 2. In step 1 you update the sitemap and in step 2 you notice Google and Bing that Sitemaps have been updated.
